Novartis, one of world's leading Pharmaceutical firms, is in a constant drive to achieve improvements through innovation in the business of medicine and patient care. When the lease for its Seoul headquarters expired, Novartis saw this as an opportunity to implement a new office environment that was better aligned with the company’s goal of innovation.

The company relocated its Seoul headquarters from the old CBD near Seoul Station in Jung-gu, to IFC building, a modern high rise building located in the new international financial district in Yoeuido. The new office would occupy two levels, approximately 3,744 m², of Three IFC Building.

Activity based workplace design (ABW) was adopted in the new Seoul office. The new office design integrates creative and flexible workplaces that promote a dynamic workflow and communication amongst its employees, across its six business entities.

The new Seoul office design offers an all open floor design with no dedicated private offices for its upper management. To ease the employee’s transition from a traditional assigned workspace to a flexible unassigned work setting, home zones were created where employees from each of the six business entities were allowed to move freely within their home zone. There are no visual or physical separations between home zones which allows for flexibility any future changes or adaptions.

The new workplace will support Novartis in the rapidly changing business environment and the work styles in the years to come.

The key to the success of JLL’s project management services in the delivery of the project was the close partnership with the client and the team of project consultants, contractors and vendors. The team worked in close partnership with a common team commitment to identify any potential issues and find solutions to meet the needs of the end users. The Project was executed on programme and on budget.
